Kanye West, Keyshia cole, Chris Brown, and T-Pain all hit up 106 & Park yesterday to promote current and upcoming projects. Kanye and T-Pain performed. And for those that are wondering, I’m hearing official word that Chris’ album has been pushed back to October. In the latest issue of Essence Magazine, Angie Stone talks candidly about her past relationship with R&B crooner D’Angelo. Amongst other things, she also talks a little bit about her new album, and her beef with J Records.
The criticism that D’Angelo and I received about our relationship only began once he became successful. What people didn’t realize was that before he became successful there was Angie Stone from the group Vertical Hold — a strong beautiful sister who dated somebody who had not even crossed the threshold of the industry yet. When I was dating him he wore glasses, had short hair and his pants were hanging down to his butt. He was just a 19-year-old kid with big shorts and nobody cared and no one saw his beauty but me. And I told him, “You are beautiful. I promise you when your record drops your lips are gonna become famous, your eyes—everything will become famous. But he couldn’t see it because his self-esteem wasn’t where it is today. He didn’t even have an image and his hair was really short so I braided his hair with thread for his first album cover. It wasn’t until Brown Sugar came out that people actually took a good look at him and said, “You know what? He’s fine.†Then all of a sudden, he’s so fine he shouldn’t be with me.

R&B singer Tamia and basketball star Grant Hill welcomed a baby girl to their family earlier today. Lael Rose Hill arrived in Orlando, Florida weighing 8 lbs. 6 oz. Mother and daughter are doing fine, a rep tells PEOPLE. The singer announced her pregnancy on her MySpace page back here in March. This is the second child for the couple. Their first daughter, Myla Grace, is five years old. Grant said he was “thrilled” about the growing family, and despite being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2003, Tamia said she feels “fine.” Congratulations guys!
Yes, I came in at No. 6 and sold 86,000 records — in a declining market, might I add. I’m very proud of that. Not everybody’s selling records like they used to. Even the biggest artists don’t come out and go platinum in a week anymore. It’s a different day and age in the music industry. There’s no easy way to get what’s worth working and waiting for, so whenever I get thrown a curveball, I know it’s just a challenge. You just have to keep going.
NAS IS A BUSINESS MAN! » Nas’ has partnered with 310 Footwear to to design a signature shoe with the name “The Disciple.” Here’s the statement Nas released about the new sneaker: “310 is not based on a one-size-fits-all approach. It’s about customization, expressing your own personal style – and DISCIPLE Footwear Collection by 310 is born out of this same spirit. I’m excited to design styles that respect that we are not all the same – that we’re here to celebrate our diversity, our roots, our history.†The Disciple’s are available in black or brown at my favorite online retailer in the world DR. Sorry for the wait y’all. If you notice, I’ve revamped the INTERVIEWS page and I changed up the format on how the interviews are shown now. I’ve also gotten rid of that horrid Odeo player. I know a lot of people had trouble with that, so now we just use the flash player that works for everyone. Anyhow, check it out! It’s a pretty good read. J is a cool dude, and had a lot to say. And if you don’t feel like reading, press play on the flash player and take a listen … or you can read AND listen! Whatever floats your boat. Comments are disabled here, so leave all feedback on the interview page. Be on the lookout for more interviews from us within the next week!
I’m sure you guys remember us POSTING SOME PHOTOS of Pharrell and Twista on the set of their new video “Give It Up,” the first single lifted from Twista’s new album Adrenaline Rush 2007, riiiiiight? LOL, well here’s the finished product in its entirety, another “Hype” production … Enjoy!
One of my favorite producer’s, Swizz Beatz, solo debut One Man Band Man drops this month – MAKE SURE YOU GO COP THAT!. Guests appearances include Ruff Ryders’ own Drag-On, Lil’ Wayne, R. Kelly and Chris Martin of Coldplay. Production includes Swizz Beatz, of course, and new-comers Young World Music. The album features the hit “It’s Me Bitches” and the second single lifted, “Money In The Bank”. Overall it’s just a “fun” little record to me; well-produced. Also an album you can throw in the whip, I think my all time favorite track would have to be “Top Down.” – “where ever you are, shine. Whoever you are, shine.”
